16-19 Bursary Fund
Bursary Fund September 2015
Dear Parent/Guardian
I am writing to inform you that the 16-19 Bursary Fund scheme is now operational. Young people who need some financial support to help them stay in education after 16 can apply for the 16-19 Bursary Fund. This may not necessarily mean that students receive cash payments, it could involve the purchase of books and equipment or paying for school trips.
There are two separate parts to the funding:
1. Bursary of £1,200 per year for:
- Young people in care and care leavers.
- Young people in receipt of income support.
- Disabled young people receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance.
2. Discretionary awards targeted at young people facing financial barriers to participation. To be eligible for these awards you must meet the following criteria:
- Household income below £16,190
- 95% attendance for the term
- Meeting the terms of the student contract
To be considered for any of the funding you must meet the following criteria:
- Under 19 on 31st August in the academic year you start
- Meet residency criteria
- Be on a full time course
We will only be able to give information on the amount to be paid for the discretionary awards and how frequently we will pay them once we have received all of the applications.
Please collect an application form from the 6th form office and return it to the finance office by Monday 28th September
